Creamy Dairy-Free Smoothie Recipe Without the Milk

A thick strawberry-banana smoothie made with dairy-free yogurt, almond milk, and nut butter. It is naturally creamy, quick to prepare, and easy to adapt for a nut-free diet.

Ingredients

Smoothie Ingredients
  • 1 medium, about 120 g Ripe banana, peeled and frozen
  • 1 cup, about 150 g Frozen strawberries
  • 3/4 cup, 180 ml Unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup, about 120 g Plain unsweetened dairy-free yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon Almond butter or peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Optional Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon Maple syrup
  • 4-6 cubes Ice cubes

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Add the almond milk and dairy-free yogurt to a blender first. This liquid-first layering helps the blades begin moving smoothly.
  2. Add the frozen banana, frozen strawberries, almond butter or peanut butter, vanilla extract, and optional maple syrup. Keep the fruit frozen for the thickest texture.
  3. Blend until completely smooth, usually 30 to 60 seconds. Stop once to scrape down the sides if fruit or nut butter is clinging to the blender.
  4. Add 4 to 6 ice cubes if you prefer a colder or thicker smoothie. Blend briefly, just until the ice is incorporated.
  5. Pour into one large glass or divide between two small glasses. Serve immediately while the smoothie is cold and at its creamiest.

Notes

Frozen banana provides the main creamy texture and natural sweetness. Start with the listed amount of liquid rather than adding extra at once; if needed, thin the smoothie gradually with a small splash of almond milk. For a nut-free version, use oat milk and sunflower-seed butter.
