Step-by-Step
- Crush 36 chocolate sandwich cookies into fine crumbs, keeping the filling in the cookies. Reserve a small amount of crumbs for the garnish if desired.
- Combine the cookie crumbs with 6 tablespoons melted unsalted butter. Press the mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch baking dish, then chill for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Beat in the milk, then gently fold in 8 ounces of whipped topping.
- Spread the cream-cheese mixture evenly over the chilled cookie crust, taking care not to disturb the base.
- Whisk both instant chocolate pudding mixes with 3 cups cold milk for about 2 minutes, until thickened. Spread the pudding over the cream-cheese layer.
- Spread the remaining 8 ounces of whipped topping over the pudding. Sprinkle the top with 4 to 6 crushed or roughly chopped sandwich cookies.
- Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours before slicing. For the firmest crust and neatest layers, chill the dessert overnight.
Notes
Use completely softened cream cheese to prevent lumps. Keep the dessert covered and refrigerated. Chill overnight when possible for cleaner slices.
