Classic Peanut Butter Blossoms Recipe with Chocolate Kisses

Classic Peanut Butter Blossoms

Soft peanut butter cookies are rolled in sugar, baked until lightly browned, and topped with a milk-chocolate kiss while still warm. This classic formula makes approximately 48 cookies.

Cook Time 8 minutes
Servings: 48 servings

Ingredients

Cookie Dough
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable shortening
  • 3/4 cup Creamy peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup Packed light brown sugar
  • 1 Large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
For Rolling and Topping
  • about 1/3 cup Granulated sugar
  • 48 pieces Milk-chocolate candy kisses, unwrapped

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper if desired, and unwrap all 48 chocolate kisses before mixing the dough.
  2. Beat the shortening, creamy peanut butter, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, and packed light brown sugar until well blended. Add the egg, milk, and vanilla extract, then beat until smooth.
  3. Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together in a separate bowl. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the peanut-butter mixture until a soft dough forms.
  4. Shape the dough into approximately 1-inch balls. Roll each ball in the additional granulated sugar and place the balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until the cookies are lightly browned but still soft. Immediately press one chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie.
  6. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for several minutes before transferring them to a rack. Allow the chocolate to firm before storing.

Notes

Unwrap the chocolate kisses before baking so they can be added immediately. Do not overbake; the cookies should look just set and lightly browned because they firm as they cool. If the kitchen is warm, chill the dough briefly for cleaner shaping and less spreading. Use regular creamy peanut butter rather than natural peanut butter.
