Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-inch pizza pan or large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt together in a medium bowl.
- Beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and packed brown sugar for 2 to 3 minutes, until creamy and slightly fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Add the dry ingredients and mix just until no dry flour remains. Fold in the chocolate chips and any optional chopped nuts.
- Press or spread the dough into a roughly 12-inch round on the prepared pan, keeping the center slightly thicker than the edges and leaving room around the rim. Chill the shaped dough for 20 to 30 minutes if it spreads too quickly.
- Bake for approximately 18 to 22 minutes, or 23 to 25 minutes for a thicker cookie pizza, until the edges are golden and the center looks set but still slightly soft.
- Cool on the pan for at least 15 to 20 minutes before adding toppings. For neat wedges, cool almost completely, drizzle or decorate, and slice with a pizza wheel or sharp chef's knife.
Notes
Slightly underbaking keeps the center chewy because it continues cooking on the hot pan. Store covered at room temperature for up to 3 days.
