Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup (113 g) Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200 g) Granulated sugar
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup, about 2–3 medium bananas Mashed very ripe bananas
  • 1 1/2 cups (about 180 g) All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup (170 g) Semisweet chocolate chips
Optional Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Chopped walnuts or pecans
  • A small pinch Ground cinnamon

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or parchment-line a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  2. Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and creamy, about 2–3 minutes.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. Mix in the mashed bananas until the mixture is evenly combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, mixing only until no dry streaks remain.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips and optional nuts or cinnamon.
  8. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  9. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the center is set and a toothpick inserted away from a chocolate chip comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Cool the bars in the pan for 10–20 minutes before cutting.

Notes

Use heavily spotted bananas for the best flavor and sweetness. Avoid overmixing after adding the flour, and do not overbake. Store covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for about 5 days.
