Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound Fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1/2 cup Chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup Butter, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons Packed brown sugar
Seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon Pepper

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Place the trimmed green beans in a large saucepan and cover them with water. Bring the water to a boil and cook the beans uncovered for 8 to 10 minutes, or until they are crisp-tender, then drain them well.
  2. Meanwhile, melt the cubed butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped pecans and cook, stirring, for about 2 to 3 minutes, until the pecans are lightly toasted.
  3. Stir the packed brown sugar, salt, and pepper into the toasted pecans and butter. Continue cooking and stirring until the sugar melts and coats the pecans, watching closely so the mixture does not scorch.
  4. Add the well-drained green beans to the skillet. Toss gently until the beans are evenly coated with the buttery pecan glaze, then serve warm.

Notes

Cook the beans only until crisp-tender so they stay firm and the glaze clings to their surface. Watch the pecans and brown sugar closely because the sugar can scorch quickly; remove the skillet from the heat as soon as the sugar melts and coats the pecans.
