Step-by-Step
- Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan or line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
- Whisk the melted and slightly cooled butter with the firmly packed brown sugar until smooth. Whisk in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the dry mixture to the butter mixture and stir only until no dry flour remains.
- Fold in the chopped walnuts and semisweet chocolate chips. Spread the thick batter evenly in the prepared pan.
- Bake for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, until the edges are set and lightly browned and the center is just barely set. A toothpick should come out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool the blondies in the pan for at least 20 to 30 minutes before lifting them out and cutting them into 16 squares.
Notes
Do not overbake, since blondies continue to firm as they cool. For a deeper nutty flavor, toast the walnuts briefly and cool them completely before adding them. Store cooled blondies in an airtight container.
