How to Make Baked Sweet Potatoes in the Air Fryer

Air Fryer Baked Sweet Potatoes

These air-fryer baked sweet potatoes develop crisp skins and tender, fluffy centers in about 35–45 minutes. A little olive oil and kosher salt provide all the seasoning needed before adding sweet or savory toppings.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 Medium sweet potatoes, about 7–9 ounces each
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon, or to taste Kosher salt
Optional Toppings
  • As desired Butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, maple syrup, pecans, Greek yogurt, sour cream, chili, or black beans

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Wash and scrub the sweet potatoes thoroughly, then dry them completely. Pierce each potato 5–6 times with a fork.
  2. Rub the potatoes evenly with olive oil and sprinkle them with kosher salt. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) if your model requires preheating.
  3. Arrange the sweet potatoes in a single layer in the air-fryer basket, leaving space around them for air circulation. Air-fry at 400°F for 35–45 minutes, turning once halfway through if desired.
  4. Test the thickest part with a knife or skewer. The potatoes are ready when it slides easily into the center; larger potatoes may need 5–15 additional minutes.
  5. Split the potatoes open carefully and serve hot with your preferred toppings, such as butter, cinnamon and brown sugar, maple syrup and pecans, Greek yogurt, chili, or black beans.

Notes

Choose sweet potatoes of similar size so they finish at about the same time. Do not wrap them in foil, since foil traps steam and creates a softer skin; place the potatoes directly in the basket for better browning. Very large potatoes may require 45–55 minutes.
