How to Make Candied Walnuts in Just 5 Minutes

5-Minute Candied Walnuts

Crunchy walnut halves are coated in a quick cinnamon-sugar glaze with butter and a touch of salt. They are ready in about 10 minutes, including cooling time, while the stovetop preparation takes only 4 to 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup Walnut halves or pieces
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon Fine salt

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Line a plate or small baking sheet with parchment paper. Place it beside the stove so the hot walnuts can be transferred immediately.
  2. Place a dry skillet over medium heat and add the walnuts, sugar, butter, cinnamon, and salt. Stir constantly as the butter melts and the sugar begins to liquefy.
  3. Continue cooking for about 3 to 5 minutes, stirring continuously, until the walnuts look glossy and coated and the sugar has mostly melted. Remove the skillet from the heat as soon as the coating is ready.
  4. Immediately transfer the walnuts to the parchment-lined plate or baking sheet. Use a fork to separate them while they are still warm.
  5. Allow the walnuts to cool completely for 5 to 10 minutes. The sugar coating will become crisp as it cools, so do not taste them while the coating is hot.

Notes

Stir continuously and use medium heat rather than high heat. The melted sugar coating becomes extremely hot, so avoid touching the walnuts directly while warm. Store completely cooled walnuts in an airtight container.
