Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 box, about 15.25 ounces Lemon cake mix, dry
  • 1 20-ounce can Crushed pineapple in juice, undrained
  • 1/2 cup, 1 stick or 113 g Unsalted butter, melted

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. Pour the undrained crushed pineapple evenly into the bottom of the dish.
  2. Sprinkle the dry lemon cake mix evenly over the pineapple. Do not stir the layers together, because the pineapple juice needs to remain underneath the mix to provide moisture as the dessert bakes.
  3. Drizzle the melted butter over the entire surface, taking care to cover as much of the cake mix as possible. If using cold butter instead, slice it very thinly and distribute the pieces evenly over the top.
  4. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the top is golden and the pineapple mixture is bubbling around the edges. Let the dessert stand for about 10 minutes before spooning it into bowls.

Notes

Keep the pineapple undrained, and spread the butter as evenly as possible to prevent dry patches of cake mix. Serve warm, plain, or with vanilla ice cream.
