- Trim excess fat from the chicken breasts. If any breasts are very thick, pound them to a more even thickness or cut very large breasts in half horizontally.
- Place the chicken in the slow cooker and sprinkle the dry Italian dressing mix evenly over every piece.
- Pour the Sprite around and over the chicken.
- Cover and cook on LOW for approximately 5–6 hours or on HIGH for approximately 3–4 hours, checking the thickest chicken breast with an instant-read thermometer.
- When the chicken reaches 165°F/74°C internally, remove it from the slow cooker and rest it for a few minutes. Slice or shred, then spoon a little cooking liquid over the top before serving.
Notes
Regular Sprite is preferred because its sugar creates a slightly sweeter, more rounded cooking liquid. Chicken breasts vary in size, so do not rely on time alone. For the juiciest result, cook on LOW and remove the chicken as soon as the thickest piece reaches 165°F/74°C.
